Stay a while, and listen…Uhh, what did I just say?
The image gallery of this site is based on the Transformers stickers which were produced in the 1980s to 1990s. An example is like this:
It is a piece of sticker paper that contains many pictures, usually artists’ rendering of Transformers figures, many of which seem to come from Japanese magazines. This kind of stickers were popular in China back in 1980s when Transformers G1 cartoon series were on TV. As a child I spent quite some spare money on the stickers, trying to get every new piece when I saw it. Back then there were no internet, no digital media, and even a video tape recorder was a luxury. These stickers were my only way to re-live in the Transformers world outside the TV show. I collected around 80 pieces of these and carried them with me when I left my hometown. Now I digitize them, organize the images, and share them here. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did, and let’s salute to the artists who created them!
However, the printing quality of these old stickers vary, and so the clarity of scanned images also vary. As a result some images in the gallery are not as crisp as others.
Now a little explanation on how I organized the images: As you can see, a piece of original sticker contains many small images. These images seem to be randomly chosen. In fact, many of these small images are parts of a bigger image, and other parts may be scattered in other stickers. Therefore it’s like a jigsaw puzzle. I have to identify different parts of the same image from different stickers, and then try to stitch them together with software. But sometimes the pieces are incomplete and I can only imagine their relative location, and then put them in one frame according to my imagination. Anyway, I tried to present them in the best way I think.
I also divide the images into G1 and non-G1 images, and then categorize them according to character types, as you can see from the menu items. On the web the last episodes of G1 series is said to be “The Rebirth” Part 1-3. But “The Rebirth” was actually the starting point of the Headmaster series, where a bunch of brand-new characters were introduced and they continued as main characters in the Headmaster series later. So I categorize these characters (Chromedome, Sixshot, Fortress Maximus, Scorponok, etc..) as non-G1 characters and their images are put in the non-G1 category. For me the G1 series ended at “The Return of Optimus Prime”.
